The March Ahead

2023 is now more than 1/6 complete!

Though January was the official start to the year, this year (at least to me) felt more like a wrap-up of the past 3 years of disruption, loss, and uncertainty. With the holidays over and me back to my empty nest, working feverishly to birth my new personal branding course into the world, it just didn't feel like the fresh start of previous new years.

Then February's bitterly cold weather, lack of exercise, and lack of sunlight had me feeling like springtime, and the buoyant mode that comes with it, was so far away.

But March...

Ah, March. Not quite shorts and flip-flop weather but you can feel summer coming. The buds start appearing on the trees as little green grass blades poke through the once barren frozen ground. It just FEELS more hopeful, more like the true start of the year.

And for small business owners, there are several reasons why March is the perfect time for a reset and a fresh start.

  • March marks the end of the first quarter of the year, making it an ideal time to review your business performance for the first three months. Evaluate your progress towards your annual goals, identify areas for improvement, and adjust your strategy as necessary. Then you can start Quarter 2 with a clear vision and a solid plan in place.

  • Spring is a season of renewal and rejuvenation, making it a perfect time to do some spring cleaning in your life and business. Spring cleaning can help you feel motivated and inspired to take on new challenges. By decluttering and organizing your workspace, you can also reduce distractions and increase your productivity. And don't forget about decluttering your online space. Update your website and social media profiles, and freshen up your branding. Then get ready to march on with a renewed sense of purpose and energy!

  • March also marks the start of tax season, which means it's time to get your financial house in order. Review your expenses, track your income, and get your books in order. Once you get taxes out of the way and check that big to-do off your list, you'll be ready to tackle the rest of the year with a sense of accomplishment and relief. (And THIS year, I'll be better at entering expenses and mileage in a timely manner!)

So let's raise a glass of green beer, green tea, or whatever bevvy you'd like (it is almost St. Patrick's Day after all) to this wonderful month! Here's to March, with all its glory, let's embrace the start of a brand new story. Sláinte!
